Nurse helping her patient to do exercises at home

Are you currently living with a chronic respiratory disease, like COPD, and been ordered by your doctor to get more exercise? You may be saying to yourself “How can I exercise when I can’t even catch my breath?!”.

There’s no doubting it, losing your breath can be scary, and not being able to do the activities -as minimal as they may seem- as you once used to is difficult.   It’s normal to feel this way. Almost all individuals diagnosed with chronic respiratory disease suffer from shortness of breath. In fact, because of this, these same individuals tend to do less and less physical activity, and unfortunately, they eventually become too weak to do much at all.

But you don’t have to let your condition stop you from doing everything! While exercise may not reverse your condition, it can improve your quality of life by helping you feel better, breathe better, and function better.

At Epic Health Services, our goal is to help patients and their caregivers understand and cope with their chronic respiratory disease and function well in a familiar, comfortable home setting while receiving compassionate care from our experienced professionals. One way that we do this is through our pulmonary health and rehabilitation program.

Known as a pulmonary rehabilitation program, this program is designed for patients with chronic respiratory disease including but not limited to COPD, emphysema, asthma, pneumonia, chronic bronchitis, interstitial lung disease, pulmonary fibrosis, bronchiectasis, and cystic fibrosis.

At Epic Health Services our clinicians tailor the pulmonary rehabilitation program to your individual needs, combining education with therapeutic exercise, to create a comprehensive, 4-week program within your home. Through education, exercise, and support of a pulmonary rehabilitation program you will learn breathing techniques, stress and anxiety management methods, relaxation, how to do everyday tasks with less shortness of breath, and how to stay healthy and avoid exacerbations. You’ll also learn how to cope with the changes that often come with a chronic respiratory disease.

Our available services include visits from occupational therapists and physical therapists in your home setting. Our pulmonary rehabilitation professionals are experts at working with people suffering from severe shortness of breath, and ensuring you feel safe!

Through our pulmonary rehabilitation program, we seek to improve the quality of life and empower our patients to self-manage their health and decrease hospitalizations and emergency room visits. Contact us to learn more about our pulmonary rehabilitation program.
