Meet a Member of the Epic Team

Today, it’s our honor to introduce you to Aracely Perez Filsinger, speech-language pathology assistant (SLPA) with our pediatric therapy clinic in San Antonio, Texas.

Q: What do you enjoy most about being an SLPA?
A:
I love waking up, going to work, and seeing the smiles of my patients and coworkers. I love that I can make a difference one sign, one sound, one word, one sentence and one voice at a time. As Megan Hodge said, “A career in speech-language pathology challenges you to use the talents of your mind in combination with the gifts in your heart to do meaningful work that feeds your soul.” Speech-language pathology is my calling in life and I’m honored to be an SLPA.

Q: Why did you choose to work at Epic?
A: My coworkers are my family away from home. We care about each other, seek advice from one another and although we may disagree at times, we respect each other; just like a family.

Q: What are your favorite therapy tools or activities?
A: I use sports-related activities, drawings, games, crafts and I incorporate other materials into my sessions to make them exciting! The key is to love your work and have fun!

Q: What are your top three therapy resources?
A: I absolutely love Pinterest for the amount of creativity and activities that can help make therapy sessions fun! My supervisor and fellow therapists are also an amazing resource because I can use their experiences and techniques and apply them in therapy. Additionally, my top therapy resources include textbooks, continuing education unit (CEU) courses and evidence-based practices.

Thank you, Aracely, for all you do for our patients and the local community!
