Many people need assistance with medications, medical equipment or even therapy. However, sometimes that is more help than is required. These may be the exact situations where personal care fills the bill. If you happen to fall into this category, Epic Health Services (with branches throughout Pennsylvania) could be the perfect solution for you!
Home health aides exists to provide assistance to individuals who need help with the basic Activities of Daily Living (ADL). These include:
- Ambulation/functional mobility. This is measured as the ability to walk, get out of bed, and get into and out of a chair.
- Feeding oneself.
- Toilet hygiene.
- Personal hygiene.
While these do not necessarily require the services of a private duty nurse, they do require a qualified, licensed individual (or team) who specialize in providing these services for patients. Personal care providers perform these skilled needs to patients after a physician consults with the patient’s primary nurse. The nurse completes a comprehensive plan of care for approval to the patient’s insurance provider. Once approved, the personal care aide(s) take action. They will assist patients with:
- Bathing, toileting, dressing
- Meal preparation
- Medication reminders
- Light housekeeping
- Respite care
- Home safety
Home health aides do not administer medication, therapy or wound care.
In some cases, one individual may provide these services, although a team may be involved should the patient require extended services. It is not uncommon for the personal care assistant to spend 4-6 hours in the home. These hours may be extended based on the patient’s specific needs.
The reason this is good news for residents of Pennsylvania has to do with Epic’s extended presence throughout the state. There are 12 Epic branches and affiliates in Pennsylvania, which means Epic can provide personal care services on a scale never seen before.
